The Reality of Women in Tech
We often hear: “It’s 2023. Women can work any jobs they want. We’re more open-minded and inclusive than ever. There’s nothing holding them back”.
While there is some truth to this statement and the number of women in tech roles increased from 17.4% in 2014 to 24.7% in 2020, can we really call this 1.61% yearly increase progress?
Studies show that women still face a lot of barriers in male-dominated work fields:
- 78% of women feel they have to work harder than their male coworkers to prove their worth.
- 50% of women abandon tech careers by age 35, at a 45% higher rate than men.
- Women are 4X more likely than men to experience gender bias as a barrier to getting promotions.
- Only 21% of women believed they could thrive in the tech industry.
So how can we change the status quo and empower women? We can give you many "by the book" answers, like creating a safe and fair environment or being open-minded and flexible. Even if they're not wrong, these ‘solutions’ are way too broad.
Instead, we're going to tell you how Team Sessions approaches this.
Sessions: A Voice for Women in Tech
We believe, more than anything, in supporting women by giving them a voice and a platform to share their success stories and empower others to break barriers.
This is why we invited Anita Sondresen to talk about her inspiring career as the Head of Sales for the South-West region of Norway for Atea, a company with over 8 000 employees in 7 countries.
Watch the recording 👉 here and learn about Anita's uplifting journey of breaking glass ceilings and becoming the successful woman she is today.
